I've been a fan of fighting games for a very long time, but my interest wanes for a couple of years around 2006. When the recent resurgence of 2D fighters captured my interest, I began to learn more about the 11th I had lost combatants. As a result, do not miss much, but the notes I made during the search continued to grow until I had written a time-line statements fairly complete 2D fighter,
I've decided to share here. Most of these games have HG101 articles, but I hope that this list could add another layer of perspective is lost when you read about a series at once. The list is extensive, but you have to read the related articles for specific information about the game mechanics. Contains most 2D fighting games important enough to be released in the arcades and on a home console, although it is likely to be omissions. (Intentionally omitted most of the previous games in Street Fighter II, Mortal Kombat sequels, some of the worst Neo-Geo games, anime and some games.) I have also included some 3D fighting games and games of other genres to provide context
