Summer: U Street begins the film in the series May 24

The U Street film series returns with a second season, which starts May 24 with Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. Doors open at 7 pm at the Recreation Center of Harrison in the 1300 block of V Street NW - the same time for each film.

A total of six films will be shown, one each month from May to October (the final film will be on the inside). The films will be held on Tuesday night with a rain date the following Thursday. Full schedule is below the fold.

The film series is organized by the Friends of Harrison Recreation Center, the Neighborhood Association and the U Street Neighborhood Association Meridian Hill.

According to organizers, the lineup of this year's film series includes films that present and held in Washington DC, including classic Hollywood movies and family located in DC, documentaries addressing environmental issues and education that resonate in the city and films on local institutions U Street entertainment, such as the Howard Theatre and the 9:30 Club. This year, each film will be preceded by a short film. Each short will be a first documentary presented at the AFI Silverdocs Festival.
Admission Sessions, Food Trucks

Admission is free, and all the movies, with the exception of October Waiting for Superman, shown outdoors in the field of Harrison Recreation Center in the 1300 block of V Street NW. Attendees are encouraged to come early, beginning at 7 pm for a picnic in the park and listen to music spun by local DJs. Free popcorn will be provided to the first 100 attendees from 7 pm to Ventnor Sports Cafe.

All shows begin at sunset, so the exact hours may vary. Several local suppliers of food trucks will be on site serving food. In June and August Nights "family", children can play on a moon bounce from 7 to 8:30 pm before the movies.

Donations and sponsorships for the event are accepted online friends and the benefit of Harrison Recreation Center, a nonprofit organization formed in 2009 that works directly with the DC Department of Parks and Recreation to improve the recreation center through changes capital improvements in the design and improve the management and programming of the park, with the aim of Harrison Recreation Center designed a better, cleaner, safer and better park in the neighborhood for everyone to use and enjoy.
